We said farewell to the Pettits today and headed off to Memphis, TN. First stop Graceland! A bit expensive and hokey, but interesting to see all the achievements Elvis accomplished and his impact on the music world. Mike and I couldn’t help but laugh at the 6-foot painting of The King, pretty over-the-top.
Gotta love carpet in the kitchen
For lunch we wanted some Memphis BBQ. After our initial stop turned out to be closed and in a questionable neighborhood, we found Ray’s World Famous BBQ on a service road off the highway. It was a tiny place with friendly people, their smokehouse being a shack right behind the building. One man inside advertised to truckers over the CB radio saying “Can aaaaanybody hear that barbeque man?” Enormous, mouthwatering pork BBQ sandwiches greeted us when we opened our Styrofoam take-out containers. The heavenly smell filled the car as we drove to our campsite at T.O. Fuller State Park, TN. Sitting down at a picnic table, we savored every bite of the delicious food. I can’t speak for everyone, but it was the best BBQ that I’ve ever had. Good work Ray.
Our stay at T.O. Fuller was a bit buggy. There were copious amounts of mosquitoes and the high humidity wasn’t helping the sleeping situation. Late at night we had the howling coyotes, the family of owls directly above us, many other unidentifiable loud noises, and creatures scurrying around right next to the tents. While it wasn’t the best camping experience, it was the first one of our trip and they can probably only go up from here.
The kitchen is not only carpeted but also seems to have that mobile home feel to it; a double-wide feel, to be exact. Thanks for the pics.
