6-01 8,000 feet later

Eastern Colorado was a lot like the previous flatness, but eventually the hills started rolling and the rocks came out. Then we hit Denver and found the anti-Kansas. The Rocky Mountains are such a magnificent sight, words cannot describe the beauty and scale of these natural wonders. On our way to Steamboat Springs, we came across Lookout Mountain and Buffalo Bill's grave site. The view was unbelievable. I can never call the molehills in PA mountains again! The vast amount of open mountain ranges, plateaus, and rock faces is breathtaking. And we saw our first buffalo!

We continued the drive through the mountains and there was a ton of snow not only on the peaks, but all over the valleys too. This year has had record amounts of snowfall in CO; we could have gone sledding anywhere in the foothills. Down in Steamboat Springs though the weather is warm and comfortable, good for shorts and sandals.

Eli’s Aunt Meghan graciously took us in for the night. We had a great meal and went up for a soak in Strawberry Hot Springs high in the mountains. It was such a relaxing time and a great recharge after that long drive and sleep in the car.
